The first portable computer was known as Osbone 1 which was developed in 1981.

This heavy and cumbersome machine used CP/M operating system which means Control program monitor who was commonly used in 1970s before the MS-DOS wiped it out after the introduction of the IBM PC in the year 1981.

Finally professionals were able to move around with their data and information on a portable computer. the only problem was that it had to be plugged on an electric socket since it could not use batteries.

Kypro 11 was developed as perfection rather than a competitor of Osbone 1. it had twice the size of Osbone 1 when it came to the screen features and when purchased new, it came with a software bundle and it had twice the storage capacity and double density floppy drives as opposed to that of Osbone 1.

Next in line came the Bondwell 2 which was not released until 1985 which came as a result of the operating system decline of CP/M. the Compaq was introduced in 1983 at a time when standard computer platform was looked upon IBM Personal Computer.

Other laptop models that followed Epson PX-4, the NEC PC 8401A,PX-8 and NEC PC-8500. none of these four units came with standard hard disk or floppy although they made use of the CP/M modified system in the Rom.

On November 2005 the then UN Secretary General together with Nicholas Negroponte unveiled a rough prototype of the laptop computer.

When it comes to the choice of a good laptop battery charger, culpability is a factor that should highly be considered when purchasing a laptop battery charger.

It is always advisable to check on the user manual to ensure the necessary specifications have been followed in order to avoid purchasing a charger that might damage the computer battery.

It is important to go for the best quality because the charger immediately becomes part and parcel of the laptop just the same as the battery.

There are several types of laptop battery chargers and one of them is the solar charger which basically converts the energy got from the sun into electric energy through a process known as the photovoltaic effect.

The solar chargers are preferable because they are environmental friendly because when they recharge the batteries then the batteries can not contribute to the land fills.

Therefore be sure to go for a quality laptop battery charger.

Duracell Rechargeable Batteries – An Overview of NiMH

Posted in batteries For Nec by Admin on April 1, 2012 No Comments yet

NiMH (nickel-metal hydride cell) batteries have been available on the consumer market since 1989 and are now one of the most common types of batteries available, with many variants including in the Duracell rechargeable batteries range.

NiMH batteries come in most common sizes such as AA, however C and D size batteries are harder to find, but there are adapters available so that you can use multiple AA batteries instead of a C or D size. Watch out for C and D size NiMH batteries for sale which are simply several AA batteries inside of a C or D size casing. of course there are NiMH battery chargers readily available for these batteries too.

Pricing of NiMH batteries is similar to that of the alkaline alternative, with NiMH batteries rated at 1.2v and the alkalines at 1.5v. having said this, many NiMH batteries, including the Duracell rechargeable batteries, will come relatively close to the 1.5v when new, or freshly charged. the big difference is that an NiMH battery in general will offer this output for a much longer time, whereas an alkaline, while it may appear to outperform the NiMH at first, will drop off in power at a faster rate.

Because of the more even power output over the life of the battery, NiMH has proven to be very popular in high drain devices which may requirement frequent battery replacement. these applications include use in digital cameras, other photography equipment and toys.

Lithium ion batteries are another option when you are looking for a rechargeable battery, as they are known for being able to often provide a higher energy capacity, however the life of the battery is significantly less than an NiMH alternative and are usually also at a higher price point.

Apart from the Duracell rechargeable batteries NIMH range, I also recommend checking out the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. these are what I am currently choosing to run in my photography equipment, mainly due to the very long lifespan of these batteries.

NiMH is really the benchmark in general consumer rechargeable batteries, you will find one to suit all applications at reasonable prices.

A Brief History of Laptops

The idea of Laptop came as early as the late 1960 with the Dynabook, but this Tablet PC was mainly for children.

There was no real commercial incentive to develop a truly portable computer, (and it was thought to be unpractical in any case), so, it was not until much later, with new developments in transistors and processors, that the laptop was considered as something more than a child’s toy.

It was in the early 80s that the first truly portable computer was developed, the Osborne 1 did not have any batteries, (it had to be plugged in), but at least the data and computer could be transported.

A couple of years later, in 1982, the Compaq computers were released.

It is widely accepted that the Compaq was not much better than the Osborn 1 but because it was using the new popular MS-DOS operating system, (used on most IBM computers at the time), it proved an instant success.

A year latter Epson announced the first truly portable computer with a nickel battery. The Epson was more like an advanced calculator with only 80 characters displayed at any one time.

The Compass 1101 also introduced around the same time is credited for giving us the, now familiar, design of the laptop computer with the screen folded shut over the keyboard.

In 1984 the Gavilan SC and the Sharp PC-500 entered the market, with the Gavilan been the first to introduce the concept of laptop, (and a basic pointing device).

1984 also saw the arrival of the Kyocera Kyotronic 85, it was small and offered many applications such as a word processor, a modem or Spreadsheet and it was very popular indeed.

Since the mid-90′s only technology has improved the laptop computers. Longer lasting batteries as well as huge hard drives now make the Laptop a serious challenger for the desktop.

AA and AAA Battery Charger Technology

Posted in batteries For Nec by Admin on March 4, 2012 No Comments yet

Battery chargers all have different charging technologies that allow them to recharge batteries. Simple chargers work by connecting a DC power source to the battery. These are cheap and inexpensive chargers in that they take longer to recharge batteries to prevent overheating. Batteries left in these devices for extended periods of time will be weakened as a result of over-charging. a constant voltage or a constant current is what these chargers supply to the AA and AAA rechargeable batteries.

The two-way micro chip communication senses the battery level while charging is in progress. it then processes this information between the battery and the battery charger to achieve optimal charging levels. This communication between the two devices allows for the optimal charge to be achieved in the time allotted.

The most popular method for charging Nicad batteries is using a negative delta V (NDV) cut-off charge system because it offers a rapid response time. This NDV system alerts the charger when the battery is full charged by dropping the voltage output. the voltage drop is a response from polarization or oxygen build up inside the battery cell. If a fully charged battery is being recharged, then the terminal voltage will quickly rise, followed by a sudden drop off point, triggering the ready to use state. This lasts for a few minutes and the battery cells remain cool at all times. it is recommended to have a charger that responds to a very small voltage decrease, over those that require a larger decrease.

Smart AA and AAA battery chargers are technologically advanced. the charger responds to the charging instructions from the battery. These chargers use smart batteries that can remember and store information about its specific charging characteristics. the charger picks up on these requirements and adjusts the charging voltage, current, temperature, and other characteristics to the batteries needs. These chargers are great and easy to use.

Battery chargers can even turn themselves off after a charge has been completed. These are called automatic battery chargers and they utilize an end of charge voltage point to stop the charger or to switch to a trickle charge. the trickle charger is the slowest battery charger. With a trickle charger you can indefinitely leave the battery charging without ever overcharging it. This is because the battery is being charges at the self-discharge rate, the slowest rate possible. the charger is not suitable for Lithium and NiMH batteries, which subject to overheating. Some battery chargers switch to trickle charge when the battery has been fully charged. This prevents the battery from overcharging and is a good function to look for in a charger. the trickle charge is advantageous in that in cold climates they can keep the battery warm.

If you have SLA batteries then it is recommended to use a charger that has a taper current. This will charge the battery at an unregulated constant voltage. As the cell voltage increases, the current diminishes. With the taper current you run the risk of overcharging your battery. Constant observation of the battery is required to avoid overcharging.

Troubleshooting Your Cordless Panasonic

Panasonic has been around for nearly 100 years. They’ve manufactured every type of electronics from radio equipment to home theaters. We’re going to be concentrating on the cordless Panasonic line in this article with a couple of helpful tips on troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

Too many times we tend to throw away out cordless Panasonic phones because we’ve had them for years and they have just stopped working. Most of the time the simplest answer, it would seem, is to just go buy a new one. This isn’t always true though. the batteries that come bundled up inside of your cordless Panasonic phone are specific to that phone, however you can order replacements. This is nice when you think about saving $60 -$300 on the cost of a new phone and you get to claim to be green as well. Why? Because you’re not filling up landfills with phones that just needed a new battery.

Another common problem people run into with their old phones has to do with the cabling. yes, it’s a cordless phone, but the base still needs to plug into the wall. Often that little cable from the base of your phone system to the wall can get kinked or otherwise damaged. Replace the cord. It’s a standard Rg45 plug-in. In other words, any phone cable with work.

The next component that will likely give out is the power converter. these guys get pretty hot fairly easily and will burn out after awhile. If you are wondering what I am talking about, check out your telephone base. the power cord will most likely run through a nice black box before continuing on into the wall. That is what I am talking about. when these things go your base will no longer work, thus your phone will be dead as Caesar’s ghost. you can actually buy a replacement online or at the local electronics store. Just make sure you match the output and plug type. If you don’t have any experience with this sort of thing, take it with you and compare it to what’s on the shelf and avoid universal sets. they are usually more expensive and lend themselves to harming your electronics if you are unfamiliar with voltage and amps.

For signal loss cordless Panasonic bases can be added to certain brands of signal repeaters. by signal loss I mean, let’s say you can stand at the curb and hear everything fine, however your phone doesn’t seem to want to work in the basement. A signal repeater more or less extends the signal from your phone to your base by acting as a relay. these can be a little hard to install, and not over common to find. another answer would be to just simply buy another phone and plug it into the area you’re having trouble with. That is to say if you can’t get good signal in your basement, put a cordless phone down there as well.

Cleaning your phone base is important too. Dust is the number two killer of electronics, second only to three year olds with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Just dusting your base could add some life to it. Dust will insulate and lock in heat, heat is bad. Cool is good. So be cool and keep your electronics cool.

Also keep your electronics dry. even having that cordless Panasonic base on your porch is a bad idea maybe- at least for any length of time. Moisture will set in and corrosion will take place, and I have no tips on have to get rid of it. with a little care and some heads up maintenance your cordless Panasonic phone could possible double in life expectancy. This not only saves a bit on the old pocket book and helps the environment, but is nice for those of us who can never find the flash button on other people’s phones.

I Need a Sound Driver For Windows XP – Where Do I Find One?

Posted in batteries For Nec by Admin on February 17, 2012 No Comments yet

Some of the more common sound errors can be caused in part by having a faulty driver. if you need a sounder driver for Windows XP it can be really difficult to track down. Fortunately, today we have a far simpler means of getting these drivers.

You see, drivers are such an integral part of your PC because they are what do the real work when it comes to operating your sound card. there are so many different models of sound cards available these days that a computer just simply can’t operate each one specifically. That’s why we rely on drivers to to take generic signals sent by your PC and turn them into commands your card understands. Without the correct driver, errors can start appearing regularly, and you’re definitely not benefiting from the best features a card has.

Trying to find the best one for your system can be very difficult because of how many versions of one driver there can be. These programs are updated all the time and you’re never made aware when it happens. This makes not only finding the right one for your system difficult, it makes staying on top of critical updates nearly impossible. That is until today.

If you need a Windows XP sound driver but can’t locate one for your system, then I recommend using automatic driver software. These programs are designed to keep your drivers up to date, as well as make sure you’re using the best one for your system. in addition, they also monitor drivers for corruption and other errors caused by many factors such as viruses and spyware.

Scanning your system first, they’ll identify all the components that make up your computer. From there they’ll find the best, most up to date and official driver you need. You’re then given the option to download and install whichever ones you want. It’s very fast, and very simple.

If you find yourself saying I need a Windows XP sound driver, then give one of these software titles a try. You might be shocked to see just how out of date your system really is.

Posted in batteries For Nec by Admin on February 14, 2012 No Comments yet

Through the many versions of desktop and laptop computers, a lot of people may not even have the time to look back at how they all started to evolve. Many of us may have forgotten which came first and which ranked as the top. yet, every now and then, it pays off to commemorate the classical computer series that had made it to the top of the line. Would it not be useful and fun to track down how far our technology has improved?

A List of the Top ten Classical Laptop Computers

Among the notable classic top ten laptops known for their influence, price, and popularity are as follows:

10. the TRS-80 Model 100 that came out in 1983. the unit was a petite single-piece component endowed with an 8-lined neutral LCD. this model was mostly bought and used by countless proficient writers. the influence it posed on the computer industry bazaar was truly remarkable. if only its shape had been imitated by today’s computers, for sure, its manipulation will remain highly intact.

9. the Toshiba T-1000 that came out in 1987. this laptop has marked a renowned popularity and remarkable selling price. the unit was monochrome and weighed 3.5 kilograms.

8. the Zenith laptop computers which were popular in the 1980s. These days, these laptop models may not at all be interesting when it comes to the appearance but during the classic ages, these units were trendy and relatively stylish. they are nonetheless epitomes of the clamshell design still evident today.

7. the very first HP laptop computer unit launched in 1984. HP offered their first model for $3,000. Among the meaty features of the unit is the Lotus 1-2-3 packed into the machine’s ROM so it was really fast in processing details. However, this model has been totally phased out in the entire history account of HP and most people consider the HP-75 chain of laptop computers to be the first in HP’s laptop line.

6. the IBM 5140 Convertible laptop computer unleashed in 1986. very affordable, the unit was only sold for $1,975. the fact that it was produced by IBM elicited great interest from the public. However, it cannot be regarded as a true-blooded laptop basing on the definitions most especially when its printer gets docked in the unit.

5. the Poquet laptop computer that was unleashed in between 1991 and 1992. the unit was amazingly real small but featured fully with innumerable characteristics.

4. the Toshiba Porteges laptops. These units were among the top-billing Toshiba products. the brand was reputed to have dominated the laptop industry for a number of years. the Porteges were very light laptop units and up to these days, Toshiba continues to market them.

1. NEC Ultralite laptops that came out in 1989. These units were regarded as the trendsetter for other models that followed after. it is highly possible that the machine will come out one of these days.

Moreover, the laptop computers existing today owe a great deal of influence to the classic top ten laptops. if without a pattern to follow, the modern laptops will not be honed to perfection.

Laptop Repairs

Posted in batteries For Nec by Admin on January 27, 2012 No Comments yet

These days, many IT businesses are incorporating laptops & LCD Monitor desktops into their expertise infrastructure. these lovely & handy laptops allow you to do your work at your own ease even when you are not in your work-place. they attach flexibility and anyplace, anytime access to your business. moreover, these laptop computers are absolutely useful while traveling. You can be in touch with your business associates anytime as the requirement may be. not only in work-places, these laptops are fast becoming popular among educational institutions & students. An ever increasing number of schools are now endorsing the use of laptop computers. But as the saying goes every coin has 2 sides even here there is another side . if anything goes wrong with their functioning, it is exceedingly difficult to get them repaired quickly and at reasonable rates. and in this age no business would want to suffer for lack of dependable laptop repair service centers. we generally are constantly vexed by the question How to fix a damaged laptop?, then please proceed & read this article in order to get most solutions to your laptop repair related problems. Where can we find the genuine parts? A good place to start is use Google and search on your part number::

That is in case we are looking for do-it-ourselves instructions about laptop or notebook repair? here we have disassembly manuals, pictures and videos ordered by manufacturer. which would include the likes of HP, Dell, Sony, NEC, Acer, Ricoh e.t.c.,

Another good source is to do a search on froogle as well. Failing that we can call the original manufacturer and find out the cost. which normally is more than the market rates. Frequently experienced problems in any laptops believe it or not are caused by USER ERROR

One laptop failure that is usually worth repairing is the hard drive. Laptop hard drives have a higher failure rate than desktop hard drives, assumedly because they get bounced around more. The first step to take when working on any laptop or notebook computer is to remove the battery. even if the power button is well protected, like under the closed lid of the screen, it doesn’t mean that the power might not come on due to a mechanical jolt or a short when we are working on the insides, so the best bet is to just get the battery out of there. In some ways, laptop troubleshooting is easier than PC troubleshooting. The basis is that laptops are so highly integrated that many problems you can fix on a PC require replacing the main board of a laptop, Replacing the battery is often a solution to power related problems (though costly) or you may use reconditioned batteries, but repairing the charging circuitry is beyond the average home user. while operating Technicians generally are able to perform system board level repair on laptops, there are not too many problems which they cannot diagnose. Of course, some systems may require a part or component which has over the time become obsolete and that makes some repairs more difficult and time consuming. some common problems encountered each day are blank screens, systems that don’t power on, or turn on then off, systems that cannot charge batteries, ac adapter sockets which are broken and similar problems. I would first look for a local shop that can fix my laptop. if my laptop is older and the screen has either been broken or damaged or just does not switch on it might better considering to replace the entire laptop. Replacing the L.C.D screen can be the most expensive affair of the laptop. and as a matter of fact most of the companies like Dell, HP lose millions of dollars in replacing these LCD’s or charge it on the insurance cover. Therefore it would be highly advisable to use either 3M Protection filters or Privacy filters for these screens as the surface of these screens are vulnerable to punctures, stains & damages. What these filters do is give an anti-glare coating, protect the surface from getting damaged & give you a privacy feature where-in its only the user who can see the data & not a person sitting next to him, this therefore is an added feature in this fast paced world where information security is so very critical. Also one more thing that we need to always remember is that since laptops help us carry valuable data across different places, companies & countries, we need to protect the unit without compromising on the quality of the laptop case or bag. Laptop cases are no longer simply about getting your laptop from one place to another; you can do that with a plastic grocery bag. With more people than ever daily toting their computers between the office and the home, the laptop case is now expected to mix sturdiness, protection, style-the ratio of those elements is up to you. and since with the laptop you might have to carry battery charger or other required components, its better to have removable mesh accessory pouch, removable CD/DVD sleeve that holds eight discs, a detachable mobile phone case, and a zip-down workstation. There fore in conclusion, I would like to cite that the advent of Laptop has been a blessing for us, now it is up to us as to how we actually maintain it optimally.

Where Can a Computer Bus Take You?

Posted in batteries For Nec by Admin on December 14, 2011 No Comments yet

Without a computer bus, data transfer from devices to our computer would not be possible. the bus connects from devices to the CPU computer processor and RAM (memory) sending data in the form of an electrical pulse. Buses come in many sizes, the size needed depends on the bits being transferred. Common bus sizes are: 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 64, 80, 96, and 128 bits.

When talking about computer buses there are some terms that explain exactly what the bus does and how it works. Bus speed is figured in MegaHertz (Mhz). this is the speed of the data that is sent through the bus. the capacity of a bus is calculated by multiplying the bus with its speed. however, this is not always exact because there are many factors that can slow it down. the internal bus can be found inside the processor. this type of bus is capable of transferring data, instructions and other necessary info to other internal parts. the external bus is located outside the processor, but inside the computer. it too transfers data between a variety of computer parts. the bus that is used to transfer actual data is called the data bus. An Internal data bus moves data inside the processor, and an external data bus moves data from processor to the memory and visa versa. to make sure data is sent to its proper place there is an address bus. this holds all destination info about the data being sent. If you combine a data bus with an address bus the process is called multiplexing.

Over the years there has been many different buses produced with several different manufactures.
The ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) bus was produced in 1981. this started out as an 8-bit bus with speeds of 4.77 Mhz. it was later updated to a 16 bit 8.3 MHZ bus in 1984, to go along with IBM’s new processor the 80286.

MCA ( Micro Channel Architecture) produced in 1987 was a failed attempt at a computer bus. this 32-bit bus was not capable of being used with the other ISA buses that were on the market already. These were combined with the PS/2 computer, and new Intel 80386 processors, but were not accepted by other manufactures.

A combined effort by AST Research, Compaq, Epson, HP NEC, Olivetti, Tandy, WYSE, and Zenith Data Systems produced the EISA (Extended Industry Standard Architecture). this was their response to the MCA. it was a 32 bit 8.3 MHZ, backward compatible with the ISA, and could automatically set up adaptor card configurations.

With the help of jumper switches the VESA Local bus (Video Electronics Standards Association) was produced in 1992, to go with the Intel 80486 processor. it was a 32 bit bus with 33 MHZ .

The PCI buses introduced in 1993 were very popular due to the availability of Plug-n-Play devices. They were available in two versions the 32 bit 33 Mhz and the 64 bit 66 Mhz . Several sets of data could be transferred with these buses, because they were able to check for transfer errors and had the burst mode. These options made these buses very fast.

Intel’s next step was to create a bus that helped transfers with 3D graphics. the AGP (Accelerated Graphic Port) introduced in 1997, were buses that had the ability to enhance video data performance. this was possible because of their capability to separate regular data from video data while transferring.

USB (Universal Serial Bus) are technologies newest version of the Bus Driver. this was a combined effort by Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intern, Microsoft, NEC, and Northern Telecom. They were released in 1996 along with Intels 430HX Triton II motherboard. These buses transferred data at 12 megabits per second (mbps) and had the capabilities of supporting 127 devices using just one IRQ. These buses are used for connecting cameras, CD-ROM drives, keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, MP3 players, and removable media.

Compaq, HP, Intel, Lucent, Microsoft, NEC, and Phillips have created another version of the USB, called the USB 2.0. this has bus speeds up to 480 Mpbs and is backward compatible with the old USB.

As time goes on the speed and capabilities of these buses get better and better. What’s in the future for bus drivers? Only technology knows.
